Jelle De Wit

Jelle De Wit is a Belgian director, performer and theatre-maker with a strong background in devised and physical theatre. He trained at Fontys School of Fine and Performing Arts in Tilburg, where he earned a BA in Theatre with a specialisation in teaching (2012), and later completed the two-year Devised Theatre & Performance programme at arthaus.berlin alongside an MA at Rose Bruford College London (2019). Over the years, he has developed a versatile artistic practice as a performer, creator and assistant director, collaborating with companies in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Recent creative work includes serving as assistant director for Unter dem Meer and Finale (an overture) with Familie Flöz, as well as performing and creating within Berlin’s CO-LAB collective. Earlier, he acted in productions with Het Laagland, Kultuurfaktorij Monty, DEFDEF Theatre Company and others. Jelle’s artistic approach is rooted in physicality, imagination and collaborative creation. He currently works as a freelance performer, director and teacher in Germany, Belgium and Spain.

From Jelle’s perspective, performing and creating are never a purely individual or conceptual matter. Words, movements and tableaux come to life once they truly connect with someone and something else. A fellow actor or dancer. A pupil. A shared, public space with its own meaning and resonance. An audience.
